What They Do:
A medical doctor (physician) is a person trained to provide health care to patients. Doctors discuss patients' symptoms, diagnose illnesses, develop treatments, prescribe medication, complete follow-ups, and sometimes even perform procedures depending on their specialization. Health care professionals work at hospitals, clinics, or in private settings, collaborating with nurses and other specialists. Doctors possess broad knowledge of symptoms and possible causes, which allows them to make a prognosis. To further confirm, doctors perform examinations, order lab tests, and interpret results. Depending on the severity of a condition or illness, doctors may issue a treatment plan or order a referral. Some healthcare professionals might decide to specialize, which comes with an increase in salary. Either way, doctors are heroes in most cases, and while their job is complex, the rewarding feeling it brings is unexplainable.
